8 Fun Tracks for Racing Go Karts in the Twin Cities

best go karts in minneapolis and st. paul

When I was a kid still dreaming of my driver’s license, nothing was cooler than hopping into a go kart and doing my best Mario Andretti impression.

Now that I’m an adult, I find it equally fun to try my hand at some of today’s crazy-fast adult karts.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of options around Minneapolis and St. Paul for both types of racing. Today, we’re looking at all the Go Kart places within an hour (ish) drive from the Twin Cities.

Indoor Go Karts near Minneapolis & St. Paul

Living in Minnesota, there’s obviously a huge benefit to go karting indoors. (At least for half of the year…)

Sadly, with the recent closing of MB2 Raceway in Fridley and Smaaash Go Karts at the Mall of America, the Twin Cities doesn’t have quite as many indoor go kart spots as before.

Thankfully though, there’s still 3 solid options near the Twin Cities. Here they are!

Pro KART Indoor Racing (Burnsville, MN & Maple Grove, MN)

Pro KART is an awesome indoor go kart setup with locations in both Maple Grove and Burnsville. Their electric go karts are low emission and can reach speeds of 40 miles per hour!

Here’s a quick video that gives you an idea of the space and karts:

Anyone over the age of 8 is welcome, but note that kids between 8 to 12 years old have to buy a special “Kids Driving School” safety course (around $75) at a predetermined date before they can hit the track for real. (They will make special arrangements for birthday parties.)

  • Address 1: 14350 Rosemount Dr, Burnsville, MN 55306
  • Address 2: 11700 Troy Ln N, Maple Grove, MN 55369

Urban Air Adventure Park (Plymouth, MN)

The Twin Cities has two Urban Air Adventure Parks, but if you’re looking for Go Karts, you’ll want to head to the Plymouth location.

That’s where you’ll find an indoor race course with electric go carts. They’re not the fastest in the world, but the course is decently sized with a fun multi-level layout.

Add in all the other cool attractions on site, like trampoline parks, climbing walls, and ropes courses, and you’ll see why Urban Air’s claims to be the ultimate indoor theme park!

Big Thrill Factory (Oakdale, MN)

Big Thrill Factory has a few locations throughout the Twin Cities, but the Oakdale spot is the only one with Go Karts.

Here, you’ll find a small indoor go kart track with traditional electric carts.

Outdoor Go Karting

Sometimes you just want to feel that outdoor wind in your hair!

Here are the 5 best outdoor (and obviously seasonal) go kart tracks:

Stockholm Karting Center (Cokato, MN)

If you’re looking for one of the best outdoor go kart places in Minnesota, and you also happen to have a need for speed, then Stockholm Karting Center is a great choice!

Located 45 minutes west of Minneapolis, Stockholm Karting Center is a great place for beginners to get introduced to serious carting. This outdoor track is 0.65 miles long with over 14 turns, and their impressive rental karts reach speeds over 40 miles per hour!

If you’re a parent and that makes you nervous, you might take solace knowing that junior rental carts (ages 8 to 12) top out at 30 miles per hour. Although if your child is under 8, then you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Lilli Putt Go Karts (Coon Rapids, MN)

Lilli Putt is a classic mini golf location that also features affordable (and slower) go karts.

Anyone over 10 years old and 52″ inches tall is allowed to ride alone. But several carts also have a two-seater arrangement, so even younger and shorter kids are allowed to ride with a parent.

  • Address: 1349 Coon Rapids Blvd NW, Coon Rapids, MN 55433
  • Website: Lilli Putt

St. Croix Falls Mini Golf & Go-Karts (St. Croix Falls, WI)

At just over an hour from the Twin Cities, St. Croix Falls Mini Golf and Go Kart track is a bit of a trek from the cities.

That said, if you’re in the area, you might be surprised to find some fun go karts with a 0.20 mile long outdoor track.

Wild Mountain (Taylors Falls, MN)

Located an hour north of the Twin Cities, Wild Mountain is a popular winter and summer recreation spot for Twin Cities locals. So, it’s no surprise then that summer recreation includes go cart racing!

While karts here top out at just 12 miles per hour, Wild Mountain is special in also offering carts designed specifically for kids 36 to 54 inches tall. These kiddie karts have their own track and top out at just 5 mph, and they even feature an automatic braking system for added safety.

Skyline Raceway (Rochester, MN)

Last on our list is the farthest go kart location from Minneapolis, all the way out in Rochester.

Sitting 1.5 hours away, Skyline Raceway is a fun 1/4 mile track with some solid go karts. They also offer mini golf as well as gemstone & fossil panning! An interesting combination, but it’s sure to be a fun time.
